LNG market begins to cool especially in Asia.
Because Japan increased import volume of LNG highly after abandoning nuclear energy, Asia became the hottest global LNG market rapidly. LNG supply is increasing in Asian-Pacific region while Japan Public Service Corporation decreases demands for LNG to restart nuclear power plant. The upsurge of LNG begins to recede.
In the winter, 2014, the shipping prices transmitting LNG to Southeast Asia may set the lowest record since the winter in 2012. The demands for LNG in Southeast Asia have reached to peak. In the future, decreasing demands for LNG cannot be avoided.
The crazy development in Asian LNG market attracts attentions from global LNG suppliers. Several corporations have increased LNG supply to Asia in this year including ExxonMobil and BP. In 2015, 4 programs facing to Asian market will be started including high-profile LNG export item of the U.S.
In recent years, the price of LNG in Asian market are always maintaining at a high level. After Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster happened in March 2011, large numbers of nuclear power plants in Japan were forced to be closed. To fill up energy gap, Japan Public Service Corporation imported large amount of LNG.
But Japan does not give up the plan to restart nuclear power plants. By the end of 2014, at least two nuclear power plants will be restarted in Japan.
Tony Regan, an energy analyst shows that a large number of increasing supply will enter into Asian LNG market. The price of LNG will reach to 17 USD per million Btu. “Winter is a peak of demands. Generally, the price of LNG rises substantially. While factors will appear to suppress price of LNG rising up in Asian market in this winter. Japan restarting nuclear power plants is one of the factors.” He says.
A report predicts that the total global export volume of LNG will reach to 2.57 hundred million tons, increased by 7.5%, which is equivalent to the total demands for LNG in one year in China. The report also points out that export volume of LNG in Japan will be raised by 1.4% in 2014, as the largest LNG purchaser. However, Japanese export volume of volume will be decreased in the next year because of restarting nuclear power plants.
In the first quarter of 2015, price of LNG in Asia will range from 16.50 to 19.50 USD per million Btu.
