The ExxonMobil has already started Kipper-Tuna-Turrum project to produce oil and gas in Bass Strait. This is the first oil Turrum produced and gas is flowing at the same time from Tuna.
It has been many years since the Tura oil reservoir first develop the area. But different from the conventional ways, the Tuna gas cap would be exploited.
In order to improve working efficiency, the West Tuna facilities would be upgraded and two new pipelines would be adopted to deliver the gas into the Bass Strait gas grid, one of which would deliver gas to Marlin and another from Marlin to Snapper.
There are about 110 million bbl of oil and additional 1 tcf of gas. Through a bridge, the constructed Marlin B has been connected with Marlin A. Oil production from Turrum is being processed from the new complex, while gas would be processed in 2014.
The Kipper oil and gas field will wait to 2016 to be developed. One reason is that the mercury is contained in the field. Until the mercury scrubbing facilities build up, could the area be exploited, which contains 620 bcf of gas and 30 million bbl of condensate.
The main focuses of the Kipper development are wells, coolers, and a manifold. A new third undersea pipeline will play a big role in delivering gas and condensate to West Tura.
.
ExxonMobil and BHP Billiton are joints to hold the stake of Turrum and Tuna field, with 50%-50% equal share. While ExxonMobil takes 32.5% of Kipper shares. The remaining are respective hold by BHP Billiton 32.5%, and Santos 35%.
Top the oil and gas development on Australia’s eastern seaboard, the gas production from all three oil fields would remain unchanged. The production would make the region a relief during oil flow declining.
