Gas dispute between Russia and Europe has been lasted for a long time. Sanctions caused by Ukrainian crisis also have great influence on gas supply to Europe. Recently, Russia has already begun to reduce gas supply to Europe. However, Baku broke through gas corridor to Europe. On September 20, commencement ceremony of South Caucasus was held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Gas from gas field in Azerbaijan will enter into Georgia and Turkey through the pipe, then will be transmitted to Europe.
Persons attended commencement ceremony, including President from Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, Prime Minister form Greece, Georgia and Montenegro, Minister of Energy from Turkey and Albania and CEO of BP.
Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan pointed out that the construction of the huge energy engineering would have great impact on the density of many countries or even the whole region. Just like current Baku (Azerbaijan)-Tbilisi(Georgia)-Erzurum(Turkey) pipe, the pipe also named as TANAP will transmit gas from Azerbaijan to Georgia and Turkey. Then a new gas pipe will be built up in Bulgaria, which will cross through Italy, Greece and Albania. The main investors and participants are SOCAR, Botha Oil & Gas Pipe Company and BP.
When talking about the pipe program called as century engineering in 21st century, Aliyev said. “There are 2.5 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves in Azerbaijan. Prognostic reserves are 4 trillion cubic meters. Previously, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey joined in the oil and gas program. In the future, the cooperation will be expanded to Italy, Greece and Bulgaria. And Montenegro and other countries may also join in the program. A new international team will exist in oil and gas industry.”
Azerbaijan plans to supply 16 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe every year, and increase to 20 billion cubic meters per year gradually.
